At Maungatapu Preschool, we offer a warm, child-centred, and developmentally appropriate programme specifically designed for our tamariki. Our approach is grounded in ongoing observations, allowing us to understand each child’s individual interests, strengths, and developmental pace. We create meaningful activities that support their growth, fostering confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning.
Our programme is guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s Early Learning Curriculum, and is regularly reviewed to ensure it remains responsive and relevant. We celebrate the rich multicultural heritage of our community and value gender diversity, creating an inclusive and respectful environment where every tamaiti feels safe, valued, and embraced.
Indoor and outdoor play are central to our daily routine, providing opportunities for both structured and spontaneous exploration. We believe play is essential for learning — it helps tamariki make sense of their world, express themselves, and develop important social and cognitive skills. We encourage children to engage in free play, supporting their natural curiosity and creativity.
Our environment is designed to be inviting, home-like, and nurturing, promoting a strong sense of belonging. We cherish the tuakana teina approach, encouraging older or more experienced tamariki to support and learn from their younger peers. At Maungatapu Preschool, we also foster strong partnerships with whānau, ensuring open communication and shared learning journeys.
Our ultimate goal is to nurture happy, confident, and curious learners who enjoy their early childhood experience and are excited to explore the world around them as they grow and develop.
